It primarily publishes contributions in the form of overview papers and comprehensive or meta-analyses, which present new methodologies, re-evaluate existing findings, methods, or theories, and discuss papers and reviews from various fields. Key areas of focus include fish paleobiology, molecular biology, ecology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, behavior, evolutionary studies, conservation, assessment, population dynamics, mathematical modeling, ecosystem analysis, and the scientific aspects of the social, economic, and policy dimensions of fisheries. A paper on fish and fisheries must utilize all key elements of the existing literature on a given topic, typically with a broad geographical and/or taxonomic scope, and provide general points that can attract a wide readership, regardless of their geographical location. In summary, our goal is to publish articles that synthesize old or overview, long-term, or spatially extensive data, introduce or consolidate new concepts or theories, or briefly demonstrate the validity of preliminary new overview perspectives in the GHOTI section. Please note that submissions not meeting these requirements will be directed to the appropriate primary literature.

Not all journals organize their published articles in volumes and issues, so these fields are optional. Some electronic journals do not provide a page range, but instead list an article identifier. In a case like this it's safe to use the article identifier instead of the page range.
